Commissioned by art-start.org, a Manhattan non-profit, this project attempted to map the concept of ‘home’ and ‘homeless’ as seen through a community in Chinatown, Manhattan.
All the communities represented have either a direct or indirect association with the NYC shelter system. The project is largely sound based/interactive, with corresponding photography and video. Displayed here is a selection of the imagery used in the project.
The resulting project was displayed in an exhibition setting, as a fund raiser for Art Start, as well as distributed to a range of stake holders in the NYC youth, homeless, public housing and non-profit sectors as a way of communicating a specific group of young people’s experience with being ‘young’ and in the housing shelter system of New York City.
